1. Landscaping (irrigation, sprinklers, drainage):
-
PVC Schedule 40 (white): Widely used for sprinkler systems, irrigation lines, and general water transport. It’s pressure-rated and easy to cut/glue.
-
SDR-21 or SDR-26 PVC (purple or blue, sometimes marked “Reclaimed Water”): Thinner walls than Sch 40, often used in irrigation because it’s lighter and easier to handle, but still pressure-rated.
-
Corrugated PVC Drain Pipe (black, flexible): Often used for French drains or landscape drainage, not pressure-rated.
2. Pools (plumbing for return lines, skimmers, pumps):
-
PVC Schedule 40 (white): Standard for pool plumbing underground and above ground.
-
PVC Schedule 80 (gray): Thicker walls, higher pressure rating, sometimes used near pumps or where durability is critical.
-
Flexible PVC (white, “Flex PVC”): Used for tight spaces around pool equipment and return lines, but must be buried carefully to avoid collapse.
Important:
-
For pressurized systems (pool pumps, return lines, sprinkler mains) → use Sch 40 or Sch 80 rigid PVC.
-
For low-pressure or gravity flow (drainage, landscape runoff) → use SDR or corrugated PVC.
